Huger to send him with flag to Fortress Monroe. J. B. Jones for Secretary of War." JOHN BEAUCHAMP JONES (1810-1866) before the war a popular novelist specializing in the American South and West. He served as a high ranking clerk in the Confederate war department and his diary, kept during his service to the belligerent government, that was published as, "A Rebel War Clerk's Diary at the Confederate States Capital."
