The Massachusetts Centinel, Boston, September 26, 1787, 4pp plus 1pp Extra. From page two and introduced with this language "The following highly interesting and important communication we received late last evening by post ... and although lengthy ... is happy in publishing the whole entire ..." followed by the FULL PRINTING of the proposed United States CONSTITUTION from the preamble through Article VII. This Constitution printing is signed in type by "George Washington, President and Deputy from Virginia [and 38 other Deputies from twelve states]." Washington was President of the Philadelphia Convention (later known as the Constitutional Convention). Two additional articles are signed in type by Washington, the convention's resolution to submit the proceeding constitution to the United States Congress and the convention's actual submission. This is an extremely rare and early printing of the Constitution, possibly the second newspaper printing preceded only by Pennsylvania Packet and Daily Advertiser, September 19,1787. The newspaper is displayable taking all the second page and 1/3 of the third page. Early manuscript underlining of 25% of the text, a few minor foxing spots, separated at the spine. In 2016, Bonhams sold The New-Haven Gazette and the Connecticut Magazine. New Haven: Josiah Meigs, September 27, 1787, for $19, 375.
