c. 1777-1780 Revolutionary War Period, British Military Royal Navy Flintlock Long Sea Service Pistol, "TOWER" a "CROWN" over "GR" markings, Fine. This Revolutionary War Royal Navy Flintlock Long Sea Service Pistol has a 12" long, .57 caliber (regulation) round steel barrel marked with Two Tower Proofs. All steel parts have trivial light salt & pepper surfaces. Its Brass regulation furniture is rather dull olive-brass with dings and light scratches from actual use. Its brass butt cap shows evidence of this Pistol being used as a "hammer". its lock is marked, "TOWER" a "CROWN" over "GR" (King George III) and a "CROWN" over "2" (Government Ownership mark and the Inspector to the East India Company). It has a correct brass tipped wood ram rod. The stock is marked just above the rear of the lock with the Stores Keeper's mark, but is obscured by a darkened stain. Multiple Inspector's Stamps are in the stock, but are very hard to see. The stock is solid, with expected scratches and dings and chips from years of service. Measures fully to 19.5" in overall length. A good example of a Royal Navy Sea Service Pistol that was definitely used in service, that remains in good mechanical working order. A Pistol of this vintage may have seen active military service in the American Revolutionary War, or the Battle of Trafalgar, and through the War of 1812. Note; belt hook missing. Barrel tang has an old plug repair performed during the period of use. Ref: See; BATTLE WEAPONS of the American Revolution. by, George C. Neumann. c. 1998, pp. 14, 248-249. also see; BOARDER AWAY II Firearms of the Age of Fighting Sail. by, William Gilkerson. c. 1993, pp. 225- (245) 276.
