DAY, William Rufus (1849 -1923) was an American diplomat and jurist, who served for nineteen years as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to his service on the Supreme Court, Day served as the 36th United States Secretary of State during the administration of President William McKinley. A pair of checks issued by “William R. Day” to include, February 6, 1882, $2000 written to The Peerless Reaper Company; and October 27, 1885 to H.W. Hossler, $700. Both VG.
