PAINE, Halbert Eleazer (1826-1905) was a lawyer, politician, and general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he was elected to three terms as U.S. Congressman from Wisconsin. After deciding not to run again, he stayed in Washington, where he had a law practice. The latter was published for the first time in 2009 in an annotated edition. Document Signed "H.E. Paine" 1pp. quarto, November 10, 1887, being an ornate stock for the Ivanhoe Mining Company issued to D.W. Middleton, Jr. for 1,000 shares. Fine condition.
