c. 1760-80 Colonial American Era, Hand-Engraved Decorated Powder Horn, with a Native American Indian Hunting a Running Deer, Fine. This authentic Colonial through Revolutionary War era, Ornately Engraved Powder Horn measures about 11” long. It has a spout stopper intact, and its carved wooden end cap complete. There is a rich original natural patina present, with a number of historical and period designs decorating the horn surfaces. Hand-Engravings features an Native American Indian with bow and arrow in hand, hunting a running deer that has a large rack of antlers. Other game including a duck flying and large fish are also present, along with two Colonial period buildings with a quarter moon above. The smaller spout end is beautifully reduced with an added “scalloped” edge beginning the decorated larger portion. A wonderful specimen, that has actual wear and shows use. Overall, the Indian hunting scene is excellent, and the pleasing quality of this example makes it quite perfect for any period collection or display.
