PERRIN, Thomas Chiles (1805-1878) a lawyer, a railroad President, a state senator, and large plantation owner, Thomas Chiles Perrin became a political, business, and social leader in ante bellum South Carolina. Chairman of the Abbeville District delegation, he was the first signer of the Ordinance of Secession enacted by South Carolina in 1860, and in the final days of the Civil War members of the Confederate cabinet stayed at his Abbeville mansion on their retreat after the fall of Richmond. Document Signed “Thos. C. Perrin” as Notoray Public, 3pp. folio, February 24, 1853, being a legal document. Fine condition.
