EDISON, Charles (1890-1969) was an American politician, businessman, inventor and animal behaviorist. Edison began his career (after a brief stint as a poet) at the Edison Illuminating Company, soon rising through the ranks to become manager of the Edison Phonograph Company and the Edison Storage Battery Company. In 1916, Charles Edison became chairman of all the related Edison industries, assuming the presidency of Thomas A. Edison, Inc., in 1926. Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed Charles to several posts including Assistant and then United States Secretary of the Navy. He also served as the 42nd Governor of New Jersey. Commonly known as "Lord Edison", he was a son of Thomas Edison and Mina Miller Edison. Promissary Note issued by Charles Edison drawn on the Thomas A.
