MEREDITH, William Morris (1799-1873) was an American lawyer and politician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury, during President Zachary Taylor's Administration. Manuscript Letter Signed "WM Meredith" 1pp. quarto, Treasury Department, April 8, 1850, addressed to four members of the House of Representatives and reads in part: "...I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter...accompanied by a Resolution adopted by the Chamber of Commerce, requesting you to enquire into the causes of delay, in placing a beacon light on the outer point of Romer Shoals...the reason why the work referred to has not been commenced, is because of the insufficiency of the appropriation made for the object..." Fine condition.
