This is an original pen/ink board, signed by Szep, 20" x 15". Candidate supporters for Richard Nixon and Hubert Humphrey, wearing campaign buttons of that pair, are both knitting their Southern Strategy by creating a Confederate Flag. Strom Thurmond uses the yarn ball named 'Strom Thurmond' the South Carolina Senator, lifetime Democrat who changed parties in 1964 becoming a Republican. John Connally knits with a yarn ball named 'Gov. Connally', the Texas Governor. Connally later was appointed by Nixon as Secretary of the Treasury, and 1973 he switched parties becoming a Republican.
