The Book and A Christmas Letter. Felix Octavius Carr ("F. O. C.") Darley (1822-1888) was an American illustrator, known for his illustrations in works by well-known 19th-century authors, including James Fennimore Cooper, Charles Dickens, Mary Mapes Dodge, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Washington Irving, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Clement Clarke Moore, Francis Parkman, Harriet Beecher Stowe.Autograph Letter Signed "F.O.C. Darley" 3pp., New York, Dec. 23,/56. Darley regrets he cannot attend Christmas "having made a previous engagement with a friend for that day." He continues describing the food that he will miss, turkey, dressing pudding and "The oysters I trust, though slippery fellows, will be well received by you all ...."
