LOUIS McLANE (1786-1857) of Delaware. Single page penned letter in secretarial hand, but with McLane’s original bold autograph signature as U.S. Secretary of Treasury January 14, 1832. Admonishes some lower Treasury official (not named) for not sending in report on a particular subject, for which McLane mentions having enclosed a circular pertaining to “salt” [not enclosed]. Exc. +. Just normal aging. Accompanied by two fine, lengthy bio sketches of McLane.
