DAVID JUDAH of prominent Richmond, Va merchant family; he relocated to Baltimore from where this letter was written on 20 November, 1838 to his friend Isaac Leeser keeping him abreast on his Uncle Zalma Rehine’s condition. Penned in a very small (sometimes difficult to read) hand; single page (8 x 10) with full signature: “Your letter to Aunt Rachel rec’d…Uncle is progressively improving in health…may sit up in the next week…appetite increases…he indulges more feely but he will not admit himself better [and more on his condition]…should he get worse I will write again…Aunt Rachel ages on as you left them, nothing worse. The rest of us status quo…at a loss who to grouse with in your absence…” Back sheet acts as cover with address and postal mark. Exc.
