Fancy printed and ink completed certificate (7 x 10) given for “DONATION TO THE GREAT CENTRAL FAIR” with original penned signature of L. B. [Lucien] Moss as Vice Chairman (of Phila) a noted large prominent Jewish family; Lucien Moss active in all Jewish and civic groups and associations. This certificate given to a “J. C. Eckel for printing the badges for the sewing women” (who obviously had a booth raising funds for their work on behalf of Union soldiers relief. Large printed seal of the “Great Central Fair – U.S. Sanitary Commission” (the predecessor of the Red Cross) depicting two wounded soldiers assisted by lovely young lady. Fancy border; dated Phila. May 28, 1864.
