SAMUEL NOAH. 80 page pamphlet (5 ½ x 9) “ASSOCIATION OF THE GRADUATES OF THE U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY…ANNUAL REUNION JUNE, 1871.” First 32 pages devoted to individual biographies of graduates who had died that year, 1871. Among the longer bio sketches (1 ½ pages) is that devoted to Samuel Noah. Specifically mentions his “Jewish descent and being cousin of Mordecai Noah, the former Consul to Tunis…” Describes Samuel Noah’s career beginning with U.S. 1’st Reg’t Artillery, then to West Point and on to frontier duty; resigning his commission in 1811 in order to command, with the rank of Colonel, a force of Mexicans and Anglo-Americans who fought with the Spanish Royalist in Mexico and Texas in 1813…then back into U.S. service for the War of 1812. All-in-all an exciting career which this booklet specifically notes: “the romantic record of Samuel Noah’s early life is full of wild adventures and thrilling incidents; his after history was a curious medley…and his long declining years were an old age of poverty…” He died in 1871 at age 92 in Illinois. Condition exc.; original blue paper covers chipped on extreme edge and weak at spine only.
