He was the son and half brother of two chief rabbis of England ELKAN NATHAN ADLER (1861-1946). A lawyer by profession he was also honored with Doctor of Hebrew Law degree by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. His library of over 5,000 Hebrew manuscripts was world famous; also active in International Jewish Communal Affairs. Two page neatly penned letter entirely in his hand on letterhead of his law firm in London; to Judge Sulzberger, Phila. Oct. 18, 1901: “…have pleasure in introducing to you the bearer of this letter Monsieur Nissim Behar, late Director of the Alliance Technical Schools at Jerusalem. He is sent by the Alliance to America with a view of spreading propaganda for the Alliance…a gentleman of highest integrity whom I have known for 20 years…of invaluable assistance to me in Jerusalem. He had the ear of three successive governors of Palestine and has done admirable work for the Jewish cause. He is not a Zionist or at least not a Zionist in Herzl !” Exc. +. Accompanied by two impressive bio sketches of Adler.
