Main” 3p. quarto, March 13, 1807, with integral address to George Tibbits of Troy, New York, it reads in part: “...I have now the pleasure to inform you that yesterday I sent your thorn plants to Alexandria and had them shipped on board the Brig. Rising States Capt John Jeniker for New York...I was very fortunate in getting them away so readily, seeing the weather here this season has been so precarious...The plants are put in bundles of 25 plants each with a straw band...You will also in the same box find 50 plants of the Pyracantha or Evergreen thorn. These are to be planted where they may permanently remain in the hedge about 3 or four feet apart...” Much more, including a diagram. VG.
