Autograph Letter Signed, “Wm. D. Hatch” 3p. quarto, with integral address leaf, Bayou Sara, July 4, 1847, and reads in part: “…A barbecue came off at Sanica at which many of our Chivalry attended…A Fandango was dissected at Charlotte Broadnax last night, at which no doubt the flesh was made weak…I could not venture my frail bark on such raging Billows…It appears you are dealing in articles pertaining to the feminine boudoir, God grant you prosperity and may your percentage be sufficient to gratify every wish is the Prayer of your esteemed friend. You say you are not married; I can hardly believe it; What! live in that cold, Christian country without a woman; nonsense. Give me the Desert and my passions gratified, rather than a palace and no sweets of woman there…Whiteman is about and the niggers are drinking whisky as usual on Sunday evening…” VG.
