Typed Letter Signed, “Hugh Raphael” Chief of Police, City of Saint Joseph, Missouri, March 23, 1928, addressed to Smith & Wesson and reads in part: “...We are seeking information regarding a case in which an officer employed by the State of Missouri in teh Fish and Game Department accidently shot and killed an alleged violater...the officer drew his gun pointing it in the air at about a 45 degree angle...fired one shot and to his surprise one of the hunters dropped. Upon reaching the scene he found that the bullet had entered the hunters back between his shoulder blades...severed an artery causing instant death. We wish to ascertain the velocity of a 32 Smith and Wesson long, 4 1/4 inch barrel at the above distance, also the ballistics at this range and the shocking powers...” VG.
