Autograph Letter Signed, “ME Swan” 2p. quarto, Philadelphia, September 28, 1836, with integral address to his sister at Gettysburg, in part: “...I was at the Horticultural Societies Exhibition on Thursday night. There was a great many beautiful flowers, and plants, there was a great many different kinds of trees and fruit. I saw a pumpkin that weighed 160 pounds and measured 7 feet 1 inchin in circumference. I saw two or three specimens of the Beet root, sugar [?] was very nice it was as white as loaf sugar. I should have liked to have tasted it, there was the sugar beet there too. General Harrison arrived in this city on Saturday evening from Baltimore there was a great crowd to welcome him altho’ it was raining, he walked with his hat off up to Front street and then got into a carriage but the horses became so frieghtened at the crowd the people took them out and hauled the carriaged themselves to the Marshal Hall....there was a great deal of cheering when he land from the boat...” Some mouse chew, else about Good.
