Manuscript Document Signed, 1p. folio, Fort Clark, Texas, March 5, 1871, and reads: " We the Jurors convened at Fort Clark Texas for the purpose of holding an Inquest on the body of a man name (unknown) about 5 feet 8 inches high, light hair, dark complexion, color of eyes unknown thin compressed lips, pug nose. We the Jurors find the said man came to his death at Fort Clark Texas, March 4th at 9 o'clock PM By gun shots fired by soldiers of the Post of Fort Clark; While he was attempting to escape, under charge of murder of one Charles Shepard, a soldier at Fort Clark, Texas." Signed by W.W. Arnett, one of the first settlers in Uvalde County; his important memoirs are at the University of Texas, Austin, and have often been quoted in historical publications. Fine.
