Bligh could gain no intelligence from the mutineer Christian, and his accomplices, who were on board the Bounty. When they returned to Otoheite ... the natives .. laid a plan to sieze the vessel and crew, but a favorite female of Christian’s betrayed the designs of her countrymen; he put to sea in the night, and the next morning ... was nearly out of sight.
