President Madison and Secretary of State Monroe endorsed this presidential appointment document on January 22, 1814. In it, they raise Andrew Peirce of New Hampshire to the position of "Principal Assessor." The 16-1/2" x 10-1/4" document is rough around the edges, but it has an overall clean and evenly toned central area. Both signatures are fabulously bold "9-10" examples, with that of future President Monroe being touched by one of the document's standard filing folds. This is a very presentable unframed appointment with its official paper seal fully intact.
