Complete issue of The New-York Times, July 4,1863, 8pp, 20” x 15”. Reports (some of it erroneous) of the famous battle that took place July 1-3 fills the entire front page and continues on the back page. Headlines include: "The Great Battles. Full Details of the Battle of Wednesday. No Fighting on Thursday Until Four and a Half, P.M. A Terrible Battle Then Commenced, Lasting Until Dark. The Enemy Repulsed at All Points. The Third Battle Commenced Yesterday Morning at Daylight. The Rebels the Attacking Party. No Impression Made on Our Lines. The Death of Longstreet, and Barksdale of Mississippi Other Prominent Rebel Officers Killed or Wounded. Gen. Sickles'Right Leg Shot Off." Also, page 3 dispatches from Vicksburg dated July 3; it was not yet known that Vicksburg had fallen that day. Binder punctures at left edge, else fine. Handsomely preserved in a custom-made black and burgundy folio, 22 x 16-1/2 in., with gilt lettering.
