Morning and Evening Editions of the The New-York Triibune, April 15, 1865. Both papers have black mourning borders. The morning edition, which has 12 pages, carries a 2-1/2 column story on page 3 headed: "HIGHLY IMPORT! The President Shot!" and gives in order 11 dispatches which the paper received about the attack on President Lincoln and Secretary of StateSeward At that time it was not known if the President were still alive. The 4 page has front-page news of Lincoln's death: "DEATH OF THE PRESIDENT' with the text of Secretary of War Edwin Stanton’s announcement to Major-General Dix: "Abraham Lincoln died this morning at twenty-two minutes after 7 o'clock" The paper includes a moment-by-moment account of the President's condition (pulse, respiration, etc.) from 11 P.M. on April 14th until his death at 7:22 A.M. on the 15th. There is also mistaken report of John Wilkes Booth's capture, details of the attack on Seward, public sentiment on the assassination, a report on the inauguration of Andrew Johnson, and More. The morning edition is fine. The evening edition is moderately foxed, with some darker. toning at the folds and margins. Housed in a custom-made holder of black buckram with burgundy spine; ; the name of the paper, the date, and "Assassination of Abraham Lincoln" are in giltletterng.
