c. 1837 Printed Broadside on white Silk entitled: "Farewell Address of General Andrew Jackson to the People of the United States," 24.5" x 18.25", Very Choice About Mint. Sharply printed in black ink on lovely, shimmering silk. Legend at the bottom reads: "Printed by P. Augustus Sage, No. 3 La Grange Street, near Christ Church, of Philada.(lphia)". This historic, very famous address appeared in a number of different forms, including on paper, this being one of the nicest silk examples we've ever seen, in any form. Extremely rare, as this example is of a somewhat different printed format than either of the two versions shown in "Threads of History". In this address Andrew Jackson warns; "You have no longer any cause to fear danger from abroad... It is from within, among yourselves, from cupidity, from corruption, from disappointed ambition, and inordinate thirst for power, that factions will be formed and liberty endangered."
