JACKSON, Thomas J. "Stonewall" (1824-1863) Graduate of West Point, he was an instructor at the Virginia Military Institute when war broke out. As a Confederate general he defeated numerous Union opponents before being mortally wounded at Chancellorsville by his own troops. Southern icon. Autograph Letter Signed, "T.J. Jackson" 1p. quarto, Head Quarters Valley District, November 7, 1862, addressed to Lieutenant General Longstreet, and reads in full: "...Genl, Your dispatch of yesterday has been rec'd. The enemy has evacuated Snickersville Maj. White with his cavalry dashed into the place & captured 104 prisoners in addition to three or four wagons. The enemy appears to be collecting along the Manassas Gap R.R. about Piedmont. I send a bundle by the bearer to the care of Maj. Sorrell will you please ask him whether it is delivered. It is from a family in Charlestown..." VG.
