All issued to Jewish organizations or Jewish investors of that city (some very famous). Bonds have fine quality, profuse illustrations including the complex of buildings of Phila. City Hall; early locomotives; dockside wharf; George Washington; cobbler; Franklin and more. Each bears signatures of City Controller and Treasurer. Varying in amounts issued from $100 to $9,000! Five are dated in the 1850's; four dated in 1860's; just one 1872. Among the prominent names to whom issued: "Joseph L. Moss; Isaac J. Phillips, Treasurer of United Hebrew Beneficent Society; S. Tobias; S. M. Etting; Philip Nathans; "Har Nevah Lodge [B'Nai B'rith] in trust for K. Goldberg, Joseph Cohen [and others] Aaron J. Seligman and Henry Phillips Jr. (a leading authority with published works on the currency of the American colonies; archaeology and Philogy) and two of the bonds are issued to Henry Myer Phillips prominent Phila. attorney, one of first Jewish congressmen elected in Penna. (was prominent in the discussions and his speech favoring the entry of Kansas as a slave state prior to the Civil War; member of Congregation Mickve Israel). He remained unmarried and significantly those 2 certificates are made out in his name as well as his companion and lady friend "Constant Guillon!" All show aging and almost all in exc. condition. Just one is split on centerfold, but easily repaired and one other with some very small pieces out mostly on the margin area. These single certificates have been known to have been sold for $100 to $200 each to collectors. Wonderful opportunity to gain a group of them. All 10………
