He was instrumental in the development of the street railway system in Pennsylvania and president of several of those railways; founder of a college named for him and still existing (in his name) as a division of Univ. of Penna. Single sheet (8 x 10 ½; blank reverse) beautifully penned letter to "MOSES A. DROPSIE" from Sec'y of the Penna. Street Railway Association Dec. 24, 1873 advising Dropsie of resolutions made by its "Board of Presidents" advising the presidents that of the various Passenger Railway Companies of Phila. agreed to give 10% of their excess receipts for year 1873 to contribute towards the "Centennial Exposition Fund"…to celebrate the 100'th anniversary of the American Revolution in 1876. Also mentions that "on the motion of Mr. Dropsie…was agreed that several Passenger Railway co's…furnish…the cost of keeping the streets in order through which their tracks run…for the use of the Commissioner of Highways…[etc.]."
