Saltglaze 1 gallon jug. Stoneware, c. third quarter 19th century. Unsigned, bears encircled bold '1' (impressed.) Attributed to Chester Webster, probably while working at the B.Y. Craven Shop, near Coleridge, North Carolina. This piece bears five sets of incised lines from neck to upper middle. Fly ash melts and orange peel texture to shoulder. No chips, cracks or hairlines, handle has been reglued. Rare and desirable piece of early Southern Pottery. Size: 11-½" .
