4 gallon churn signed in script "4 Gay". Issac E. Gay b. 1835 d. 1904 one of the earliest known potters working in the Union County area. Very early form for a NC churn with two spots of heavy glass drips. Nice ear handles with a high rim for the neck. Ht: 18" condition: tight hairline from neck 4' down… old stabilization with wire.
