A great war-date Southern slave sale letter, 1p. 8vo., written in ink by a certain Jack Hall, Salisbury, [N. C.], Jan. 8, 1865 to the Stonewall Iron Company, reading, in part: "…I have a No. 1 boy 19 yrs of age, 6 feet high black weighing lbs 170. A No. 1 farm hand and the best wood chopper also a splendid wagoner I ever saw and the likeliest boy I ever saw if you wish to buy such a boy come immediately as I have him for sale…". Also included is the original transmittal cover bearing a ten-cent Jeff Davis stamp. Dampstains, else very good.
