Escaped slave and abolitionist. Quite rare Frederick Douglass spoon issued to commemorate his death in 1895. The spoon has a detailed image of Douglass along with all the pertinent accomplishments he attained throughout his life. They are listed with the dates up the shaft of the spoon, which is designed as links in a chain, harkening back to his days as a slave. The first date is 1838 and reads “Escaped from Slavery, the next reads “Nantucket Mass.” Dated 1841, the next reads “54th Mass. Reg“. Dated 1863, the next reads “Elector at large” 1872, the next reads “U.S. Marshall D.C.” 1877, the next reads “Minister to Haiti” 1889, and lastly “Died Washington” 1895. The spoon measures 6” in length and is in excellent condition. A wonderful slave-abolition relic.
