Dated April15, 1865. Measures 5 ½" X 8 ½", 2pp., fine. Rare General order issued by Gideon Welles, Secretary of the Navy, announcing the assassination of President Lincoln. The order announces the assassination, and that the Navy and Marine Corps will wear the usual badge of mourning, a gun to be fired every half hour, and flags to be hoisted at half mast.
