Autograph Letter Signed, “R.M. Rucker” 4p. octavo, Camp Walker, 2nd Tennessee Reg., Virginia, September 15, 1861, with cover addressed to his father in Murfreesboro, it reads in part: “...will move from here in a few days down on the River Potomac...where we shall of course be exposed to the enemies guns & c. The exact spot I am not able to say but nearly opposite this place near Evan’s Point. We are erecting batteries there now, and when the enemy find out we are likely to blockade the P. River. They will be likely to give us a fight....the signs are good for a fight before long. Our troops here, in this part are slowly advancing but what our plans are , I can’t tell. Our Regiment was visited yesterday by the distinguished Wigfall of Texas who has command of a Texas Battalion or Brigade. He was dressed very plain, with a red flannel shirt on & cap, no coat on, and riding a sorrel race mare. He looks as though he cuold beard the lion in his den. He payed our regiment a fine compliment &c. My health now is as fine as it ever was, we sleep delightfully at night in our tents on the ground, we have oil clothes the size of common blankets...” VG.
