An exceedingly scarce Confederate Naval document, partially printed, 14” x 8-1/2,” Charleston, April 15, 1861, fine. “District and Port of Charleston, State of South Carolina, The Confederate States of America,” certifies that “B.F. Pickens ... commander of the Schooner Challenge ... bound for Darien Georgia” has cleared his vessel according to law.” The document bears two unique blind stamp seals, each 1-1/2” diameter; “Custom House Charleston, So. Carolina,” and “Naval Office Charleston, So. Carolina,” and is signed by W.F. Colcock, collector and John Laurens, Naval Officer.
