Autograph Letter, 4p. quarto, New Carthage, Louisiana, February 21, 1861, with cover, incomplete but with good content, it reads in part: “...we saw the grand military parade, an awfully grand signt to see hundred & hundreds equipped and ready to march at any moment to fight in the defence of their country and their rights, one night they had a grand illumination in honor of the consolidation of the Southern confederate states, you cannot conceive of anything so beautiful, we walked that night for miles & miles the streets were crowded, ‘New Orleans’ certianly is a great city...” More on the burning of the ‘Charmer’ a steamer.
