A rare war-date Confederate newspaper, 4pp. measuring 15" x 10 1/2", entitled: THE CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, Vol. 60, No. 19 344, Charleston, S. C. Confederate States of America, Thursday Morning, Dec. 18, 1862. The headline articles include the election of Milledge H. Bonham as governor, casualties of the 3rd South Carolina at Fredericksburg, the Confederate advance toward Murfreesboro, the destruction of Union vessels outside of Vicksburg, and a lengthy two column article concerning the cruise by the Southern Privateer Petrel giving a historically important account of that ship's capture and demise. Also, included are several ads run by the famous slave auction firm of Wilbur & Sons for selling slaves and other property. Many more interesting articles are included. Usual wear, else very good. Certainly a rare Confederate newspaper.
