Rare war-date Confederate Autograph Letter Signed, “Phil. H. Force” 2p. quarto, Army of the Rappahannock, near Fredericksburg, Virginia, March 23, 1863, with scarce advertising cover with “Force & Mitchell, Wholesale Dealers in Boots and Shoes...Charleston, S.C.” cameo, with ink manuscript “Soldier’s Letter..25 Regt S.C.V.” with Army of Northern Virginia Red 10 in circle and Ms Due, with Fredericksburg, Virginia cds, the fine letter reads in part: “...I noticed a soldier of the provost guard on my way to Fredericksburg, eyeing me very clostly. I called him to me and asked his authority for observing me so minutely, he replied that he was informed that a female in man’s attire was on the train and he suspected me. I ‘showed up’ to the astonishment of Willie Seymour and the party, when I was allowed to pass as every inch a man...” Fine.
