Rare Confederate “Tax in Kind” broadside, 1p. 12”x18-1/2”, December 21, 1864, and reads “Estimate and Assessment of Agricultural Products which are taxed in kind, agreed upon by the assessor and the tax payer, and the value of the portion thereof, to which the Government is entitled, in accordance with the provisions of the Acts of Congress, ‘to lay taxes for the common defence and carry on the government of the Confederate States,’ and an act to amend said act, approved Feb. 17th, 1864. Said estimate and assessment to be returned to the District Quartermaster on or before the 1st day of January of each year.” and lists the amounts of Corn, Rice, and Cured Fodder, taken from B.L. Myers of the 5th Congressional district of Alabama, and is signed as being received by Thos. W. Sims on March 4, 1865. Additionaly signed by Myers and an assessor, who state that Myers is exempt from some of the tax because he needs the “agricultural products...during the Hog fattening season of the year 1864.” About VG.
