Rare type of "Tax in Kind" Document Signed, "D. Kincaid" 1p. Quarto, Lincoln County, North Carolina, March 28, 1865, and reads in part: "Estimate and Assessement of Bacon, agreed upon by the Assessor and the Tax Payer, and the value of the portion thereof to which the Government is entitled, in accordance with the provisions of the Act of Congress 'to lay taxes for the common defence, and carry on the Government of the Confederate States,' and of the Act to amend the same, approved 17th February, 1864. This estimate to made after and as of March 1st of each year." It records F.C. Burton as providing $276 worth of bacon. Fine.
