Autograph Letter Signed, 56th New York Infantry, 3p. octavo, Carver Barracks, February 20, 1862, and reads in part: "...I believe the rebels have got most enough of ball playing since they have found out that the Yankees haven't forgot how to play at that game. We had a glorious time here on Monday after the news came that Fort Donelson was taken, all hands turned out with pistols and guns which were fired from the time we heard the news (4 pm) until bed time. Capt Reagans artillery fired about forty rounds of cartridges, all the hands belonging to the brigade turned out & some of the Colonels made speeches...today we hear that Savannah is taken also Gen. Price. I don't believe the Tenth legion will ever have chance to fight although our Lieut tells us that we will..." VG.
