War-date Autograph Letter Signed, “Edw. White” 6p. octavo, Picket Station, near Loundon Heights, Virginia, November 9, 1862, and reads in part: “...Seventy five of us left camp about noon, today, and came out here on picket. The first post was at a school house, about two miles from camp. Forty men were left there, and three men on a post between there and here; at this post there are seven besides myself. Jacob H. Way is among the number....We anticipated a good time as pickets could be expected to have. The farm house is close to the barn. The family (which is composed of the old man, and his wife and daughter) is very kind to us; especially the daughter...When we left the house, in the afternoon, the old lady (who had in the meantime found out that we had music in our company) invited me to bring music over some evening and she would have some young ladies invited...I have not seen more than two or three girls in the neighborhood. They are not equal to our Chester Co. girls...” VG.
