Autograph Letter Signed, "John Robinson" 16th Maine Infantry, 4p. octavo, pencil , September 30, 1862, and reads in part: "..send me one pair of buckskin gloves…Josiah Dill has enlisted so I heard. Direct your letters to John F. Robinson, Washington D.C., Co. E. 16 Reg. Maine Volunteers in care of Captain A.D. Leavitt…" Fine…plus; Autograph Letter Signed, "Arch D. Leavitt Capt. Co E, 16th Regt. Me. Vols.” who died of wounds he received at Laurel Hill, Virginia, and reads in part: "…I have this day sent to the surgeon your descriptive list and account of Pay and Clothing. The rules are that all descriptive lists, shall be sent to the surgeon in charge of the hospital. I am much please to learn that you have got a good place where you can have good care. I wish some of my sick men could fare equally as well. Hoping that you will soon recover from your wounds…" Fine. (2 items)At the commencement of the battle of Gettysburg, Archibald D. Leavitt, was at Washington sick, but hearing of the battle and impatient for the fight, he applied for leave to join his regiment, and reached the field on the last day of the action, in season to take command of the small uncaptured remnant, numbering two officers and fifteen men.
