D, 16th Maine Vols., POW Weldon Railroad, 1p. octavo, on "The War for the Union" battle scene lettersheet, Camp Jameson, August 8, 1862, and reads in part: "...The Elections of Officers are at last appointed, [Oliver] Lowell [KIA Gettysburg] was appointed 1st Lieut. and a man by the name of [George] Deering [POW Gettysburg and confined Libby Prison] was appointed 2d Lieut. Whitney was throwed out, McAllister has not got anything yet but the Gov. told him that the 2d Lieut of Co. I...". VG.
