War time manuscript, 3p. octavo, not dated and by an unknown soldier, it is titled "Sabbath desecration" and reads: "The First Battle of Bull Run was fought on Sudnay. 14 June Sunday 63 Gen Hooker begins his march towards the North from Falmouth. On 28th Sunday he is relieved. Gen Meade remains quiet that day and before the next Sunday he's won the battle of Gettysburg. 13th Sept, 63 an advance commenced, we returned over the same roads on a later Sunday. 28th Feb. 64 Cavalry movement which was to liberate prisoners & capture Richmond, commenced, in which Col Dahlgren was killed and no advantage gained. 1st Landing at Ft. Fisher on Sunday, unsuccessful & Gen Butler relieved attempt to bust out the end of the canal at Dutch Gap occurred on Sunday & failed. Personally have been called upon to make maps & reconnoisances on Sunday for immediate use which were not used until days afterwards. Was called upon to make reconnoisance and triangulations where works that were to be commenced Monday would draw the fire of the enemy and make it unsafe to accomplish. Deferred it until Monday and the enemy were extremely quiet…" Dampstain, else about VG. Unusual.
