War-date Autograph Letter Signed by C.C. McCormick, as Captain but later Colonel and Brevet General, 2p. on verso of two passes, Alpine, Georgia, September 12, 1863, with cover addressed to his mother, it reads in part:” ...cannot give you any particulars in regard to our movements as this will go by a circuitous route & may fall in to the hands of thenemy. We came here four days ago had a little fight routed the enemy and lay down on our battle field for the night...We will have a battle in this vicinity very soon but the exact locality we are unable to tell as yet. Genl. Rosecrans Hd. Qrs are at Chattanooga, my impression is that the battle will be fought on the line of the Oostonola River near Rome, Ga. about 25 miles from this point...” VG.
