ELY S. PARKER (1828 - 1895) Seneca Indian and Union brevet brigadier general, Grant's military secretary who transcribed the official copies of the surrender document at Appomattox. Rare signature adding rank on a small portion of a document headed "Headquarters Armies of the United States", June 12, 1863. In full: "Ely S. Parker Bt. Col. & Mil Secy to Lt. Gen. Grant". Mounted, heavy mounting traces on verso, folds, staining bottom left corner, just good.
