Excellent soldier’s pocket size “Journal from the March of the 4th Div. 23rd Army Corps from Crab Orchard, KY,” recording the movements of the army from August 21 through August 24, 1863, and contains fifteen (15) handdrawn maps of the route of their march, four (4) of which are double page size, the remaineder being smaller sketches. The entries give excellent details of the topography of the route, as well as recording the time, weather, distance traveled and a small map of the area encountered. The larger maps recrod all the roads and areas of running water, as well as pinpointing Division HdQrs. and any known homes. Places of note are General Burnsides HdQrs., McClure’s HdQrs., Camping Ground for Brig. ,the home of Dr. Joplin - noted as being a good place for HdQrs, and the Jones Hotel. Extra fine.
