War-date Autograph Letter Signed, “Stephen Comstock” 4p. octavo, Camp 9th NY Cavalry, Near Culpeper Court House, Virginia, March 6, 1864, with cover, it reads in part: “...we arrived here in our old camp the 26th of Feb. all safe and right side up but my mare is sick with the horse distemper. I guess that I will loose her, I never saw a horse run down as fast as she has since she came down with the distemper. I have got the mumps that is all that ails me at present and they wount trouble me much......I understandd that some of [them] thought that we were a hard set because we spread it so hard, but if they dont like our style they can shove it...” VG. Comstock is buried at the Winchester National Cemetery, Winchester, VA Gravesite: #369.
